Dads play many roles…

 

In a family environment having clear goals and roles is key. Understanding your strengths and playing to them will keep you on track. Being drawn into areas of your life where you get distracted and not in your zone, things can quickly come unstuck.

Be clear on your roles. As a Super Dad you have many roles to play; lover, provider, jester, king, visionary, futurist, teacher, nurturer and many more to fulfill the needs of your family.

Some roles you are more comfortable with and others you plain suck at. What role is most important for you to play? Are you playing the right role at the right time?

They are 12 main archetypes that we could use. We will usually default to our most comfortable and may touch on one or two others.  Being able to access the various archetypes gives you emotional flexibility and reduces stress and if fun.

Ever been called rigid? Heard the phrase, “Can’t teach old dog new tricks?” These could be signs that you handle things from the one or only a few view points. Playing different roles allows flexibility, brings variety to situations and surprises. Taking on a different character at times really does take the heat out of situations and can lead to great outcomes. How many characters do you play? What characters could you include that you don’t currently have?
