Imagine a way to show yourself where you might want to give some attention in your life. Would you find a simple tool that highlights how things are going for you helpful to achieving more? If you had a way to see and gauge just how you are tracking would you be interested?
The wheel of life is a quick and informative way you can see how you are going. Based on a simple rating system, 1 not good at all through to 10 being high achieving or fully satisfied, you start to tell yourself a story that you may want to take notice of.
I believe we have all the answers within. I truly believe that given the right time and asking ourselves quality questions we are capable way beyond what we think. Using techniques as mentioned in “Think and Grow Rich’ Napoleon Hills’s book, you are able to tap into your mind and deliver incredible results. To self educate, taking full responsibility of your education is critical to accessing the next levels of whatever you are wanting to achieve.
Education is derived from the Latin word ‘deuce,” meaning to endure, to draw out, to develop from within. Taking this meaning you have all you need to crank things up. Coaches, mentors and others all assist by helping you find your answers and realising for yourself what you know and the next actions to take.
How’s this done? Draw a circle and divide it up into, typically, 8 – 10 -12 segments and give each segment a name. They might be; money, health, career, partner, spiritual, physical environment, personal growth, fun, friends & family, romance, mental, ethics, social life, and the list can be completed driven by you.
The next step is to rate each segment of your life. Zero is the centre, the bullseye and 10 is the edge of the circle. Using a pen, mark where on the axis of that segment what you would rate that segment in your life currently. Progressively go through each segment.
This is the interesting part. Now colour in the areas below the line for each segment. Notice how the segments are all lining up equally, some are larger segments next to others, some sticking way out and others almost non existent. Once all coloured in, you then ask yourself a question, “If this was a wheel, how would the ride be? Depending on how aligned your different segments were and what rating you gave them, I suspect you will have a very, very bumpy ride. You have just completed the first step to understanding how things maybe going for you, a little bumpy, and what areas you may need to work on.
What now I hear you ask? How do I crank things up, get this wheel back to some sort of functional shape? Being honest with yourself is key from here on. Do I need to even do or worry about these things? Which do I want to improve? Can I pay or delegate some parts? Do I know that if I apply myself I will do better in that segment? Do I need help or coaching in areas?
In the same book, “Think and Grow Rick” there is a priceless piece that describes, “The Board”. It is an imaginery Board of people you pull together to assist you assess situations and how to handle them and make decisions. Pull into your ‘Board” people you feel can bring value to your next phase. By simply pretending to ask your Board members what they would advise or do, you unlock your own thinking and find new insights into a range of things you had no idea you were capable of handling.
Enjoy it and start to think bigger and take control back of your life and get the wheel in balance and enjoy the smoother ride. The other thing about a smooth ride is that you can go faster. Next question, where do I want to go and what does that journey look like?
